Now that BC has collected their 6th win of the season last weekend, chatter picked up about what bowl BC will be going to. Almost immediately, BC can rule out the Peach Bowl and the Gator Bowl. Unless the 2 game rule comes into play or either is forced to take BC should BC make it to the ACC CG and lose, these two bowls will always stick their nose up at BC. Its pathetic and cheapens the actual game...the Peach Bowl is supposed to feature the #2 ACC team...and they haven't done that the past two years. BC can also scratch the Music City Bowl off their list since they went there last year. So here are the actual options for BC
Orange Bowl- This one is obvious, BC is still in the running for the ACC CG and the winner of that goes there, no bullshit selection process.
Champs Sports Bowl- This one is a bit of a longshot unless BC is the runner up in the ACC CG and somehow the Peach and Gator Bowl duck BC without totally losing credibility. BC was there in 2007 and actually had a decent turnout (although MSU brought at least twice as many fans). If BC goes here, it likely won't be a decision Florida Citrus Sports made freely.
Emerald Bowl- Should BC not make the ACC CG, this will be their most likely destination. The venue (AT&T Park...lame) and the amount of travel the day after Christmas make this a less than ideal venue for East Coast BC fans, but the turnout here the last time BC played was better than most ACC teams as BC has a lot of alums on the West Coast.
Meineke Car Care Bowl- Unlikely, especially if multiple teams from North Carolina are eligible. Unless they can find an opponent to help fill the stadium, this bowl will almost undoubtedly take a local team to drive ticket sales. BC also played here in 2006.
Eagle Bank Bowl- Army is playing an ACC opponent in DC this year. BC would get a decent turnout here but between the cold and the lack of a quality opponent, I expect many people to poo poo this idea.
GMAC Bowl- Yuck, nobody is going to watch this bowl. It's against a MAC team and its the night before the BCS Championship Game. I hope BC can win enough games to avoid falling this far.
If the season were to end today, I'd say we'd be a lock for the Emerald against a Pac-10 team. Bottom line is, the bowl process with the ACC is totally fraudulent. The only bowl that maybe views BC as a positive is the Emerald. The last two years have really changed my opinion on the non-BCS bowls, they're meaningless exhibition games that are more concerned with attendance than a quality game. The ACC should be embarrassed of the Peach and Gator Bowl, the last 2 years they have decided to pass on the second best ACC team and the ACC's record in those games is 0-4.
The Bowl lineup is changing a lot for the 2010 season. Say bye to the Gator Bowl and hello to the Sun Bowl. This lineup will be in place until the 2013 season. They are in order of selection.
Orange Bowl- Miami, FL
Peach Bowl- Atlanta, GA
Champs Sports Bowl- Orlando, FL
Sun Bowl- El Paso, TX
Meineke Car Care Bowl- Charlotte, NC
Music City Bowl- Nashville, TN
Independence Bowl- Shreveport, LA
Eagle Bank Bowl- Washington, DC
I'd say it's a downgrade but from BC's perspective who really gives a shit. We might actually get to go to the Champs Sports Bowl again because BC had a good turnout (10K+), but the Peach Bowl will still be off limits. I guess the ACC would rather be embarrassed on the field at some of these high profile bowl games than be embarrassed with the stadium shots from the blimp.
